I Wonder

I wonder when you first touched my heart
How I remembered you

I wonder when that touch surpassed every lovely word ever whispered to me
I wonder why tears that once stung, now soothed

I wonder when I began to breathe again

I wonder where you are when I'm lost in your eyes
I wonder when we became "we"

I wonder if divers ever panic
Once they've reached the deep
Do they gasp for air?
Struggle for safety?
Or surrender to the abyss?

I wonder when I first touched your heart
And you recognized me, too
I wonder when my words erased all hurtful things to you

I wonder how babies know how to cry
But you don't
And I wonder where you go
When you're lost in my eyes

I wonder if pilots panic
Once they've soared too high
Do they gasp for air?
Struggle for safety?
Or surrender to Arms of the sky?

I wonder when my words will scorch you
I wonder if we'll end
I wonder when "we" will become "me"
And I wonder how babies know when to cry
But you won't

I wonder when you'll search my eyes
And find a stranger
I wonder if I'll panic

For, once I reached you in the depths
And once I soared too high
Will I struggle for safety?
Breathe again?
Reach for Arms of the sky?

I wonder if you'll remember
I surrendered
Surrendered it all to God
