Extrication

All alone

I lie in the grass with a heart full of hate

Just me against a world full of lies, lust, and evil

Imagining what hell must really be like

Thinking…

…fire, burning, darkness surrounds me

Then a star, glowing like a fast ball of fire,

Shines brighter than anything I’d ever seen before –

Blinding me

For a moment, death becomes more real to me

I close my eyes and whisper to myself,

"Do I have anything to live for?"

I’ve seen it all…

…lies, murder, lust, anarchy

Then like magic

This star glowing and damn near blinding my sight –

It somehow makes me gasp real hard for breath…

… a new breath

As though it’s taking my soul,

I exhale

Feeling a weight being lifted off of me

Opening my eyes,

I see something different in my lonely world

Could it be an angel?

I then feel a hand caressing my body slowly

First stroking my hair

Slowly, it touches my once very numb soul

As though to enlighten me on a new feeling –

Warmth?

Love?

Faith?

This magic, this star, my angel?

It’s you

Like a prophet, I hear you speak

And all alone, I lie in the grass

No longer naked to a truth

Extrication, I am free
