Steady Eyes

My hand is clammy

wet and sweaty

My heart is pounding

hard like a cartoon

My mind is roaming

searching for understanding

My voice is shaking

like a wooden rollercoaster

My eyes are steady,

watching you; come close to me.

A love I have yet to know

an idea that is beginning to grow.

Where did you come from? and  . . . How are you doing this to me?

Paralyzed in awe

you stand before me

sweat dripping, heart pounding, mind searching, words shaking;

Eyes steady.

I search you and you search me.

Do you see what I see?

Your soul, my soul; a united force.

With steady eyes we say, “I do!”
